I’m bilingual. I speak English and Croatian. But when I began my journey as a partner and bride to be (many, many years ago!) I didn’t realize that I would need to be tri-lingual! While looking at articles online the other day, I noticed a mention for a website that looked very intriguing about relationships and our love language. I clicked on the link and suddenly realized the website was a direct link to a very popular book I had read long ago. In 1992, Dr. Gary Chapman wrote a book titled “The 5 Love Languages” and ever since then it has been highly regarded as THE relationship book.
I recall reading this book while I was in college for a communications class. The theory behind the book is that each of us “speaks” a different language when it comes to love. We are not all the same and we do not request and react to the same “language” when it comes to love. I had almost completely forgotten about this book until I saw the website mentioned in an article I was reading. Feeling almost revitalized, I quickly went to www.5lovelanguages.com to see what it was all about. In the original book there are quizzes, guides and explanations about what love language we each speak individually and what love languages our partner speaks and tips on how to speak to each other despite our differences in languages but now this website allows people to take a simple online quiz to help guide them to their love language.
Now, I really hadn’t thought about this book in quite some time and this website made me reflect. I’ve been with the same man for 16 years and have been married to him for almost 11 years. Did I need a refresher course in his love language and possibly even in my own? We are all different. Men and women for years have complained about not seeing eye to eye and the differences in the fundamental nature of men and women is a billion dollar industry. There are hundreds, if not thousands of books dedicated to trying to make us understand the opposite sex. As a wife, mother, daughter, friend and sister, I realized that we all need to take this quiz, not just to better strengthen our relationship with our spouse, fiance or partner, but to understand what it is that WE need.
If you have a few minutes, go to the website and take the quiz and see what language you speak. Are you surprised with your findings? As I embarked on the quiz, I was pretty sure I knew my language, but what I didn’t realize was how strong my language really was. I wasn’t on the cusp, I was firm in my category.
Hello, my name is Adrianna and I speak Acts of Service and I guess I speak it very loudly. Now, the key is for everyone to hear me.

Do yourself a favor and take a few minutes to take the quiz. What love language do you speak? Is it different that you expected? How do you think this will help you in your current relationship?
I’d love to know so feel free to email me with your results.
