Celebrate Earth Day on your Big Day!

Did you know that one of the hottest trends for weddings in 2013 is green? We’re not talking bridesmaid dresses, make up or even décor, we’re talking about going green and incorporating earth friendly elements into your wedding day.

In recent times, we have seen a growing trend of couples incorporating eco-friendly or “eco-chic” elements into their wedding; everything from wedding dresses to their registry. Eco-chic weddings have many benefits not only for mother earth but for your pocket book as well. According to, “By making simple substitutions and eco-conscious decisions, like choosing a location central to the majority of your guests, you can easily decrease your impact on the planet and the cost of your event simultaneously.” And we couldn’t agree more.

Hosting a complete green wedding may not be for everyone but here are a few suggestions for incorporating a little eco-chic into your wedding.

  1. Create or purchase postcard style invitations with an email RSVP in lieu of the traditional mailed response card. You can also opt to have your full invitation suite printed on recyclable paper. One of our past brides had invitations created using plantable or seed paper where guests could grow beautiful wildflowers simply by planting the invitation.

  2. When purchasing centerpieces or décor for your wedding, consider purchasing items from a local thrift shop. Long gone are the days of uniformed settings or centerpieces and an emphasis has now been placed on mixing and matching styles and colors.

  3. Instead of purchasing guest favors, donate the designated “favors” portion of your budget to your favorite charity. The gift of giving back to the community will be appreciated by your guests as well as the group you have chosen to donate to.

  4. Opt for China and Glassware to limit your disposable waste, along with Kegs of Beer vs. Bottles. Also, check with your Bar Service Provider/Caterer to see if they recycle plastic and bottles after the event.

  5. Ask your Caterer is they source local produce, this will lower the footprint on your wedding.

  6. Use potted plants in varying sizes as centerpieces and let guests take them home, thrift shop glass candle holders or use natural elements like fruits, woods and veggies for your table decor…all of these items can be easily repurposed!

Your wedding may be a special day, but marriage is a lifetime. Make sure you are doing your part to ensure you will have a place to celebrate your life together!

Happy Earth Day!
