One of the most important things you can do to protect yourself in planning is to protect yourself and your investments into your wedding day.  While I have never had a Client make a claim (YET!) you never know how beneficial it could be to mitigate your risk with Insurance.

Many venues will require you provide proof of Liability Insurance with a number of requirements to meet along with them being listed as "Additionally Insured" with $2million in coverage.

When purchasing coverage, you will have a few options to buy:

  • Wedding and Event Liability: Covers liability at the venue for property damage or injuries to guests that you may be held responsible for.

  • Host Liquor Liability: Will protect you against liquor-related incidents. If you are hosting a wedding at home, this may also be something you need to consider.

  • Venue or Additional Insured Liability: If your wedding requires you to provide liability coverage for the venue or additional named insureds, you may have to add them to the policy.

  • Cancellation or Postponement: Reimbursements of any nonrefundable lost deposits up to the limit of the policy.

  • Additional or Special Coverages: If you want to insure your dress, or tuxedo, gifts, photographs or other items against damage or theft (i.e. if you rip your wedding dress accidentally).

  • Although all the wedding insurance companies offered liability and cancellation insurance, each one has its own special features. Each service also had its own policy wording and exclusions. The verbiage in the policy can make a big difference in providing coverage for (or excluding) items that may be important to know about with regards to your wedding.

While I do not have a "Preferred vendor" for this, it is very easily acquired online through the following providers:

Also, your home/car providor may also be able to provide this at a "bundle cost" as well so don't skip them!

Please also note, your Vendors will likely be required to provide proof of coverage to the Venues, so make sure they are aware and can provide it as well. If necessary the above listed providers can help them as well.

Please let me or your Venue know if you have any specifics questions about required coverage.  If your Venue does not require it from you, we still suggest you getting a policy to cover yourself, just in case.

One last note:  PLEASE for the love of ALL THINGS SPARKLY AND IRREPLACEABLE, get an additional "Personal Articles" policy for your diamond engagement ring and matching bands.  Talk to your home/renter's insurance provider about this.  Many home policies do not cover over a small amount for jewelry. I have stories of far too many Couples loosing their great grandmother's heirloom, custom or designer rings and completely lost the value to not having the appropriate coverage.  A simple policy can cover your rings at full value for lost, damage, or theft if you are adequately covered.

Cheers,

Care
